LOUISIANA DISASTER RECOVERY FOUNDATION AWARDS OVER $3.5 MILLION

New Orleans Urban League Chairman Assumes Louisiana Recovery Post

Former Ambassador James Joseph, Chairman of the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation (LDRF), today announced the selection of Flozell Daniels, Jr. as the Foundation’s President and Chief Executive Officer, effective December 1, 2007. The appointment was approved at the October 25, 2007 LDRF board meeting. Daniels replaces interim CEO Kermit “KC” Burton, a loaned executive from the Annie E. Casey Foundation. MORE >>

Leaders Urged To Sustain Recovery And Betterment

Working together as a Gulf Coast collaborative for recovery and renewal, the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation (LDRF) and a diverse group of national and community leaders marked the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina today by discussing the opportunities and challenges faced by Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi in the aftermath of the storms. The region-wide commemoration, including people hardest hit by the disaster, was designed to put a human face on recovery efforts and to elevate lingering issues essential for betterment in the region. Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation Brings Equity And Inclusion Campaign to D.C.

While Katrina fatigue and Rita memory loss set in and many attempt to close the book on the national tragedy of the 2005 hurricane season, the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation’s (LDRF) Equity and Inclusion Campaign made its debut in Washington today to remind the country of the needs of all of its citizens and Gulf Coast residents’ need to return to communities of opportunity. Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation Hosts Reception for National Conference of Black Mayors

Civil rights activist Adam Clayton Powell IV, will speak this evening at a National Conference of Black Mayor’s (NCBM) reception hosted by the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation (LDRF) in Baton Rouge, LA. The event is the most recent expression of the Foundation’s Policy and Advocacy agenda and follows in the wake of the Congressional Black Caucus Forum, which the Foundation hosted to discuss the policies needed for Louisiana’s recovery and testimony by CEO Dr. Sherece West before a Congressional Committee investigating the housing crisis along the Gulf Coast. LDRF Announces Interim CEO; New Grants Awarded

Kermit “KC” Burton is set to join the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation (LDRF) as acting Chief Executive Officer on May 14, 2007, replacing Dr. Sherece West. The motion to name Burton as acting CEO was approved at LDRF’s Board Meeting on May 8th in Baton Rouge. The Board also released new grants for recovery and reform for beneficiaries throughout the state. MORE >>

Hyogo Prefectural Assembly Member Hiroyuki Kada Visits LDRF

The Honorable Kada Hiroyuki, Member of the Hyogo Prefectural Assembly, Japan, met today with the staff of the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation (LDRF) in Baton Rouge. The visit was part of a tour around the state to study the response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and share best practices on disaster recovery. The goals of Kada’s meeting with the Foundation included learning how LDRF utilizes donations, better understanding the role LDRF played throughout the recovery process, and sharing recovery stories from his region. Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation Starts New Year With Additional Grants

Ambassador James Joseph, chairman of the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation (LDRF), announced today that the LDRF has awarded additional funds to contribute to the Foundation’s recovery efforts. “As we begin the new year, it is important to remember that the people of Louisiana are still facing many hurdles resulting from the destruction caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and continue our mission of long-term recovery through strategic grant-making.” Since inception, the Fund has awarded $14,677,650 to nonprofit organizations throughout Louisiana that provide services and supports to individuals in hurricane-impacted areas.” MORE >>

High-Tech Firm Encourages Aid for Hurricane Recovery

Isilon Systems, a technology company that specializes in clustered storage systems and software for digital content, recently donated $2,500 to Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation in support of hurricane recovery. On October 27, David Feldman, a Baton Rouge native and the Western Area Sales Director of Isilon Systems, presented the donation to representatives of the Foundation on behalf of Isilon and highlighted the need for continued support for rebuilding in the shadow of hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation Announces Louisiana Organizers Renewal Award Receipents

As a way of acknowledging the countless hours and sacrifices Louisiana-based community organizers have spent in the relief and recovery effort since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation (LDRF) will honor 17 local community organizers with a Louisiana Organizers Renewal Award (LORA).
