New Orleans Planning and Organizing Fund

The Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation in conjunction with the Ford Foundation has created a pool of flexible philanthropic capital, targeted specifically for New Orleans, for displaced and current residents to participate in the neighborhood planning processes. Support from the fund will focus on:

  • Ensuring the voice and participation in the neighborhood planning process of evacuees currently living elsewhere.
  • Building the leadership and knowledge of affected residents who are rebuilding in the neighborhoods, increasing their ability to influence the decision-making process.
  • Building the capacity of community-based organizations working directly in the affected neighborhoods or with displaced residents in the diaspora, providing staff and technical assistance.
  • Communicating with displaced residents throughout the diaspora.
  • Analyzing policy recommendations created throughout the process, producing clear and succinct educational materials and providing suggestions for grassroots advocacy.
