To Whom it May Concern: My name is Melissa Capozza and I am a 4th grade teacher at the American International School in Lusaka, Zambia in Africa. Our school is for students whose parents work for embassies and international corporations, as well as the local population. Although some of my students are American, most are not. I have students from Zimbabwe, Israel,South Africa, and Eritrea, just to name a few. This year during a unit called "Let's Get Along," students investigated what factors caused conflict, how peace is maintained, and conflict resolution on both personal and global levels. As a result of this unit, my students wanted to promote peace and chose to sell Peace Bands, similar to the yellow Livestrong bands. Through weekly current events, my students explored different alternatives as to where to give the profits. Although Zambia is a country in great need, my students chose to donate the $500.00 they earned to the Hurricane Katrina recovery effort. Please accept this donation on behalf of my class. Enclosed is a check my students created for you and a picture of our class. They earned an additional $25.00 since the day they created the check for you. Sincerely, Melissa Copozza and my students The Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation (LDRF), Louisiana's fund for Louisiana's people, has been established by Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco in order to support long-term family restoration and recovery and help provide assistance to our citizens in need through a network of Louisiana charities and non-profit agencies. 225-383-1672 | www.louisianahelp.org |
